2012 Republican Primary

**Republican Presidential Contenders' Economic Plans**

The most interesting is Herman Cain's plan of 9-9-9 that calls for 9% federal income tax, 9% corporate tax and 9% national sales tax. Cain claimed that his 9-9-9 plan would create 6 million new jobs.

However, the credit for crafting the most comprehensive economic plan goes to Mitt Romney for his 59-point, 150-page plan. Romney claimed that his elaborate plan would create 11.5 million new jobs during his first term.

Rick Perry unveiled his own plan on October 14, 2011 in Pittsburg. His plan is based on the premise of expanding the domestic energy production radically, including opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, accessing oil and gas in western states, in the Gulf, southern Atlantic Coast and Alaskan Seas. His plan will create 1.2 million new energy-related jobs over the next 14 years.

In all but two of the elections since 1904, candidates who won Ohio became the President of the USA. By 12,000 votes, Ohio rejected President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944, although the Vice Presidential candidate in Thomas Dewey's ticket was the governor of the state. In 1960, Ohio handed out victory to  Richard Nixon although nationally he had trailed J.F. Kennedy.

After trouncing Santorum in Puerto Rico Primary last weekend, Romney won the Illinois Primary on March 20, 2012 with decisive margin (Romney 47%; Santorum 35%; Paul 9%; Gingrich 8%). As of March 20, Romney has 563 delegates, Santorum has 263 delegates, Gingrich has 136 delegates and Ron Paul has 50 delegates. Romney needs 1,144 delegates to win the nomination.

Santorum won the March 24, 2012, Louisiana Republican primary (Santorum-49%; Romney-26%; Gingrich-16% and Paul-6%)
