The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on December 10, 2010 issued a preliminary report on findings from a study conducted in school systems in Dallas, New York, Denver, Charlotte-Mecklenburg, N.C., Hillsborough County, Fl., Memphis and Pittsburg that tried to assess teachers using an innovative teacher evaluation tool, known as Value Added Analysis (VAA) Model. The core concept of this model is to score a teacher that reflects and represents the growth in achievement that occurs in a class from one school year to another, measured in large part through gains on state tests. The central finding from the study is that the teachers are able to replicate the value added measure/score in multiple classrooms and in multiple years. The final report is due in the winter of 2011-12.
